FrSky FlySky or Spektrum

So my FlySky FS-i6 resulted in bricking and I have an option to get it replaced by the newer version Flysky FS-I6S , upgrade to the FrSky Taranis QX7 for $20 or look through the more expensive spektrum transmitter. The FS i6 never worked out of the box when I received it.

Which one would be better? Also is Spektrum good? I have only heard about flysky and frsky.

I'm using this for a custom 3D printed drone that I made for an engineering class. All tested and just needing a transmitter and receiver.

does it take any receiver or is there a separate module I have to use?

If they don't include it, you will need some frsky compatible receiver like xm, xm+, xsr

I have flysky and love it. Having said that, never had frsky so can’t compare.
Upside to frsky is most bnf models come with frsky receiver.

I'll stick with my spektrum stuff... It's never let me down. Been using spektrum exclusively for 12 years

I agree, each has it's pros and cons. I had spektrum recievers way back so it made my life easier to stick with it. I like the look of dx radios over taranis (all subjective) and the ease of support and parts with horizon being over spektrum.

I have the Spektrum (DX6e) and FLYSky (Turnigy Evolution) and love them both, especially the EVO. Almost bought a Taranis but didn't like the "feel" of it and ended up with the DX6e for my first radio
