With my Taranis I just hook up a mini USB to the TX and plug it into my PC. No issues with this that I have noticed.

Can you go into more detail? I'm kind of confused about using a receiver with a sim. How does that work? I have both spectrum and Taranis and I connect the Taranis to the PC with a USB cord.

Make sure you are not using a charge only usb cable. You need one that can transmit data. Test by connecting your phone to your PC. If that works then it should work on your quad.

Before you spend a lot of money on something you might like I would recommend getting a cheap $50 drone like the Sima X5 series. It comes with a controller and you can practice basic flying skills before you start to sink a lot of hard earned money into this.
